How To Start A Profitable Taxi Business in 2019

June 07, 2019

We all know the popularity of online taxi app services like Uber, Gett, and Ola. One of the modern day business conundra is how did Uber and Lyft make such a profitable taxi business in such a short time.
Today we will be decoding the secrets of these world-class on-demand taxi apps and how you too can become a global sensation like them. But before getting into the nitty-gritty of a successful online taxi business, let’s learn why you should even try for this business vertical.

Facts to Fuel Your Enthusiasm

- One of the top investment banks, Goldman Sachs predicted that the on-demand ride-sharing and taxi industry would reach $285 Billion within the next 10 years.
- The US Bureau of Labor Statistics is confident that in just a year the demand for taxi drivers and chauffeurs will rise by 20% in the US alone.
- Grab gets around 4 million rides each day. Just think how many rides would it be for the more popular Uber and Lyft.

Now that (hopefully) you are thrilled by the numbers and pumped by our intro, let’s find out how you will become from “just another local taxi company” to “the Top Online Taxi Company of the world.”

1. Research Is The Key (You Better Find The Lock). There is no better and free tool to improve your business than a detailed analysis. Yes, Google is free and one of the most precise tools with infinite data to go through. You can also hire a good business analyst (if you wish to go for a more professional approach) to do the same job and provide you a complete business analysis report.

The things that you need to research and understand are who your competitors are. Uber, Lyft, and Grab may seem the obvious ones, but you should go more in-depth. When setting up the business, you’ll be starting from a local region. So search who is the “king of the streets” for that city.

Then learn what their business model is, how are they operating and how are they earning. Trust me they don’t just earn from the ride fares.

2. Learn Who Your Passengers Are (And What They Hate)
Business niche is the most profitable business approach not only for taxi app startup but for any on-demand product or service startup. Better go for a section of the market unexplored and then expand with time.

Businesses like Uber and Lyft have a solid financial and market backing and to challenge them in the starting years of your business is a suicide mission. So carve out a niche for yourself and become the best in that before growing.

Learn what the pet peeves of your competitor’s passengers are. Try to solve those problems and provide services where your competitors lack. For instance, start a unique taxi service for elderly people or disabled individuals, or go for a tie-up with various communities.

3.Invest In Technology (And Technology Will Invest In You)

The most prominent partner of online businesses is not their marketing team or their administrative team. Your key partner would be your technology partner. The taxi mobile app development company that you will hire to develop your business app.

You have two approaches to your app development process. Either invest a fortune in app development and build your app from scratch with a dedicated app development team which will also take around 14-18 months overall.

The other option is to go for an Uber-like taxi app solution. What this option provides is that you get an already developed taxi app that is built based on the top taxi apps like Lyft, Grab, and Uber and you can customize the app as per your design and features.

This way you can create the best taxi app for you in a small budget without compromising the quality of your business app and getting all the freedom to customize how your app will look and feel with all the latest app features of the time.

Final Word
Starting a profitable taxi app business in this time and age is a tough task but once you succeed it is one of the most profitable business startups of our times. If you follow the steps given here and get the best taxi mobile app development company as your partner, then you will be ready to start your journey.
I wish you farewell and good luck for your future. Stay strong and build your business to new heights.

Air Taxi! Bell Courts Consumers With New eVTOL Aircraft Design

January 19, 2019

In 2018, Bell dropped the “helicopter” from its name and adopted a dragonfly as its logo to emphasize a move away from traditional rotorcraft toward new, innovative means of vertical flight.

That same impulse drove Bell to use the Consumer Electronics Show, rather than an aviation industry event, as the venue for rolling out its new Nexus electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, which should be ready to ferry passengers above clogged city streets by the mid-2020s.

Bell unveiled the basic fuselage design at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, but “kept the flying bits to ourselves,” according to Scott Drennan, the company’s vice president of innovation. At this year’s CES in Las Vegas, Bell unveiled a full-scale model of the prototype, creating much social media buzz and drawing the likes of Kanye West to sit in the blue-mood-lit cockpit.

Six ducted fans, every eight feet in diameter, are arranged with two attached to the fuselage forward, two attached to the fuselage aft and two at the end of stub wings. Each fan can rotate forward to provide thrust and lift in forwarding flight. Read more

Uber returns to Finnish roads after taxi market deregulation

July 09, 2018

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Uber Technologies will re-start its ride-hailing business in Finland on Wednesday after a one-year pause, it said, seeking to benefit from the country’s transport law reform.

The U.S. company has come under pressure from traditional taxi drivers and regulators across Europe, who accuse it of unfair competition and skirting traditional licensing rules.

In Finland, Uber was deemed legal provided its drivers held valid taxi licences, but the company has been the target of police investigations and drivers have been ordered to give up their earnings to the state for not having valid permits.
An overhaul of transport legislation came into force on July 1, removing a cap on the number of taxies licences the government issues in a year and fare restrictions, while creating a legal framework for apps such as Uber. Read more

It’s convenient to blame Uber and Lyft for drivers’ woes, but the taxi lobby’s greed plays a role.  By  Joe Nocera

Bloomberg News on Monday posted an article about something that has become a pretty big deal in New York City: Taxi drivers are committing suicide.
Since November, six drivers, beset with financial difficulties, have taken their own lives, most recently last Friday. After every death, there are calls from the Taxi Workers Alliance, which represents the drivers — and plenty of others — for the city to start restricting the number of Uber and Lyft cars on the road. Taxi drivers view Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. as not so much disrupting their industry as destroying it.
I suppose you can't really blame them for portraying Uber and Lyft as the enemy. In 2011, before Uber entered the New York market, there were 13,587 yellow cabs in the city of 8.5 million people. The number of cabs in New York has been capped since 1937, after a Depression-era glut made it impossible to make a living as a taxi driver. The mechanism the city used to restrict cabs was a medallion that one had to buy to own a cab. Because there were so few cabs for so many people, the law of supply and demand kicked in, driving up the price of medallions. According to the New York Times, the value of a medallion topped out at $1.3 million in 2014.Read more

Lyft invests $100M in driver support centers

June 18, 2018

he ride-hailing company doubles down in its battle with Uber to win over drivers.

Ride-hail drivers can run up against a bunch of obstacles when out on the road. They might have questions about a ride they gave, they might need maintenance for their car and they usually have to take a break to get something to eat and go to the bathroom.
Lyft is hoping it can help its drivers with some of these issues. The company said Wednesday it's investing $100 million to build roughly 30 driver support centers across the US. At these centers, drivers can get oil changes at a "heavy discount," have help with their taxes and talk to Lyft's support team in person, among other perks.

Uber and Lyft drivers could get employment status under California court ruling

June 15, 2018

Gig economy workers, including drivers for popular ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft, could find their employment status shift under a major new decision from the top court in California. The ruling will make it more difficult for companies to classify their drivers as independent contractors and avoid paying them wages and benefits as required by state law — a potentially huge setback for Uber and Lyft, which have built their multibillion-dollar businesses on the backs of a flexible, non-employed workforce.
The California Supreme Court ruled on Monday in favor of workers for a document delivery company called Dynamex Operations West that were seeking employment status. The drivers for the delivery service first brought their case over a decade ago, arguing that they were required to wear the company’s uniform and display its logo, while providing their own vehicles and shouldering all the costs associated with the deliveries.Read more

Study estimates traveling with Uber and Lyft will be cheaper than owning a car in some cities by 2027

June 15, 2018

The cost of owning a car could be more than traveling exclusively with rideshare services in Seattle and Denver by 2027, according to a new study by QuoteWizard.
Two commuters — one in Seattle and one in Denver — agreed to travel using only Uber and Lyft for a month to determine about how much it costs to get around that way. QuoteWizard compared that data with AAA’s estimated costs of personal car ownership and factored in the price reductions analysts expect to see when rideshare services adopt self-driving cars. QuoteWizard estimates that ridesharing will be cheaper than owning a car by 2027, assuming Uber and Lyft are operating autonomous fleets by that time. Read more

Will Uber and Lyft Become Different Things?

June 07, 2018

Ride-hailing companies are diversifying away from their core business, but right into more direct competition.
For most people, an Uber is a Lyft and a Lyft is an Uber.
Uber’s roots are in the black-car business, while Lyft’s predecessor, Zimride, was a carpooling app. Yet over the last six years, as the two ride-hailing companies have been in direct competition around the nation, Uber and Lyft have essentially served as exact substitutes. Drivers seem to find them interchangeable, too, often suctioning two phones to their windshields—one for Uber, one for Lyft.

Lyft has tried to differentiate itself as the kinder, gentler Uber. But under the newish CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber has become the kinder, gentler Uber. So ... where does that leave Lyft?
Today, Lyft announced a new passenger app that represents its vision for the future of urban mobility. Lyft’s VP of design, Katie Dill, who came over from Airbnb late last year, walked me through the new app. “It’s pixels. It’s product design,” Dill said, “but really what it is trying to do is have this major impact on how people behave and how people move through cities.”

Uber wants to patent a way to use AI to identify drunk passengers

June 07, 2018

Uber may be able to tell when you've had a few too many drinks.

The ridesharing giant has explored identifying drunk passengers with artificial intelligence, according to a patent application published Thursday. With the technology, Uber could better tailor its ride options for customers.
The patent application describes a system that learns how you typically use the Uber app, so that it can identify unusual behavior. The system relies on an algorithm to weigh a variety of factors, including typos, how precisely a user clicks on links and buttons, walking speed, and how long it takes to request a ride. The time of day, and where a ride is requested may also be considered.

Uber is looking at adding benefits and insurance for drivers

June 01, 2018

At the Code Conference tonight, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi spoke about the company’s relationship with drivers, autonomous driving, uberEATS having a $6 billion bookings run rate, taking over as CEO and flying taxis, obviously.

Just this week, San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera sent subpoenas to Uber and Lyft seeking information on driver pay, benefits and classification info. Uber wasn’t available for comment at the time, but now it seems that the company is looking at ways to offer benefits and insurance to drivers. Specifically, Uber is looking at an economically-sound way to offer drivers a benefits and insurance package so that “this can be a safer way of living,” Khosrowshahi said.
And despite what former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said in the past about needing to get rid of the driver, Khosrowshahi said he disagrees.

Dial 911 directly from the app

In April, Uber announced that it would be adding a direct way for riders to call 911 within its app in an effort to boost its flagging safety reputation. Today, the company is making that new feature live and fully operational across the US.
The emergency button is located in a new “safety center” menu that is easily accessible from the app’s home screen, giving riders a quick way to contact first responders in the event that something goes wrong during their trip. The safety center also includes information about the driving screening process, insurance protections, and community guidelines (aka the list of horrible behaviors that will get you banned from Uber). New Algorithm Could Save Cities from Too Many Taxis

May 31, 2018

Over-crowded streets are a nuisance for anyone investing in a taxi, but this MIT algorithm could reduce that headache by 30 percent at least.

From Uber to Lyft, the number of taxis and rideshare services on the roads have skyrocketed within the last few years. With an increased reliance on these services could come even more cars on the road -- be it taxis or rideshares -- and thus, even more congestion. However, a team of researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed an algorithm that might spare drivers and passengers the headache of traffic while also meeting rising demands. Uber Technologies on Wednesday re-opened a contest to select the first international city to launch its proposed flying taxi project, following apparent delays in getting the service off the ground in Dubai, a previously proposed market.
UberAIR, as the service will be known, aims to launch demonstrator flights starting in 2020 and begin paid, intra-city operations in 2023, the company said.
Last year, Uber named Dallas and Los Angeles as its first launch cities and is now looking for a third, international metropolis to take part, Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden announced at its annual Elevate Summit in Los Angeles. Read More
